Marquette is a beautiful city located on the shores of Lake Superior in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. It is upper Michigan’s largest city with a population of just under 21,000. There is a friendly small town atmosphere with a variety of activities to offer.
Marquette is the home of Northern Michigan University which is an Olympic Education Training site. World cup short track speed skating events have been hosted in the Berry Events Center.
The area offers a variety of activities including snowmobiling, four wheeling, kayaking, hiking, fishing, hunting, and golfing. If you are into skiing checkout Marquette Mountain, Blueberry Ridge, or The Noquemanon Trail Network. There is an annual cross country ski race called the Noquemanon Marathon. In February there is the UP200, a sled dog race.
If you like biking, Marquette was named one of the top five biking destinations by biking magazine. There are a variety of road and off road trails as well as several bike paths. Marquette hosts the annual Ore To Shore Epic Mountain Bike race annually in August.
The area offers a wide variety of shopping and dining opportunities. There is Art on the Rocks, several museums, and the Shiras Planetarium for the indoor person.
The Superior Dome offers indoor walking and host a variety of seasonal events such as the Builders Show and the Boat and Recreation Show.
